A beautiful red flowering landscape or ground cover rose, Red Meidland is naturally low growing and repeat flowering. It is a large growing rose so it needs a little space to show of its natural growth habit.
Bred in France in the 1990s, it is a long flowering rose from spring right through summer and then until frosts or the winter cold sets in.
The beautiful deep red flowers are set off by golden yellow stamens. The growth habit is cascading stems to (2ft) with a spread to nearly 6ft depending on conditions. The petals have white centres which create a lovely glowing effect in morning and evening light,
How To Grow Red Meidland Rose.
Best grown in full sun in a well drained soil
- Prepare soil well digging over well, adding compost and some aged cow manure.
- The planting hole should be at least twice the diameter of the pot. This means that the soil is open, enriched and ready to encourage root growth.
- Plant at the same depth as the rose was in in the container.
- Water in well with a liquid seaweed solution. This helps root establishment.
- Much around the plant to at least 2ft around the stem.
- Water well through the first summer
Ongoing Care
Remove any weeks from around the plant as they appear.
Use a general purpose slow release organic fertiliser or a specialist dose fertiliser each spring.
Renew the mulch each spring.
Pruning Your Red Meidland Rose
This is naturally a large cascading rose and does not need pruning each year. You can deadhead if you wish however many gardeners do not.
Any dead canes should be removed as they appear.
Prune away canes that are over 4 years old and look unproductive, poor or non flowering.
