Maple trees come in a wide range of types or forms from smaller growing dwarf species to large trees. Maple trees are used widely in landscape works as well as in the home garden.
Nearly all maple trees are deciduous and are generally a fairly hardy long lived tree. Generally Maple trees prefer a humus rich moist but well drained soil. This covers a large range of mainly deciduous trees from the Northern Hemisphere.
Maple trees prefer a temperate climate and are readily available for sale as both bare rooted trees (during winter) and as potted plants.

Look for a humus rich moist but well drained soil in a positions with some protection from hot afternoon sun and drying winds if possible.
Maple trees are generally planted as shade trees, in street plantings or as ornamental trees and are well known for fantastic Autumn color. They are also used for timber (furniture) making Maple Syrup (Acer saccharum) and the timber of Maple Trees is sometimes burnt to make a high quality charcoal.
