Origanum 'Rosenkuppel'
Origanum ‘Rosenkuppel’

This is an ornamental Oregano, and Origanum ‘Rosenkuppel’ is also a Bee Magnet. While it is not used in cooking it doe4s make a great planet for the ornamental garden or cottage garden.

It is drought tolerant once established, thrives in the heat of summer and survives our cool to cold winters and is easy to prune to0 shape.

We like it for the Rose red flowers that attract masses of bees to the garden in med to lat summer. The foliage is attractive and it takes on red hue in the depths of winter.

Planted in a good soil which is free draining, the only maintenance required will be light pruning to keep it in shape and a little more compact.

Simply prune back low in early spring.

Care

This is a plant that’ll reach over .5 metres when in full flower, so consider the height when planting.

  • Dig the soil over well and wed the area well.
  • Dig in some extra compost and aged manure in poorer soils.
  • Plant and water in well with a liquid seaweed fertiliser.
  • Water through the first summer and mulch lightly to maintain a cool root run.
