A lovely plant for the shade garden, Epimedium grandiflorum ‘violaceum’ starts the spring with new bronze coloured foliage. As the season progresses the foliage turns to a mid green and the tall flower stalks appear.
The flowers are a violet purple, long stems and although small are very attractive. The foliage forma a dense clump over time so this is another Epimedium species that makes a good ground cover plant for part shade.
This will, be deciduous plant in colder climates, in our temperate climate it looses some leaves over winter yet holds others.
