Saxifraga x arendsii 'Rose'
Saxifraga x arendsii ‘Rose’

One of the many Saxifrage species, Saxifraga x arendsii is one of the best for the garden and particularly good for a part shaded position in well drained soil. It does prefer cool to temperate climates and is best where some moisture is available through summer.

Flower colour varies from red to pale and deep pink with other tones mixed through.

The common name is Rock Foil, also known as the Mossy Saxifraga and this is due to the mossy green foliage.

This is a plant that flowers over a long period early spring right through summer is not uncommon.

Care

Saxifraga x arendsii
Saxifraga x arendsii

This is a low care plant, trim back the spent floor heads after flowering with some garden shears.

A general all purpose fertiliser in spring at around 50% of the recommended rate will be sufficient.

This is an ideal plant for growing in containers, rock gardens in in the general garden border.

Flowers are attractive in season and the mossy green foliage looks good year round.

In containers use a good quality potting mix and fertiliser in spring and then again in early summer.

Available for sale from the following nurseries.
