Licuala ramsayi is the Queensland Fan Palm, and is perhaps one of the most attractive in terms of foliage of all of the Australian palm tree species.
Very attractive rounded green fans of deeply divided foliage, a good mid green in colour these are a tropical to sub tropical tree that naturally grow in rainforest areas in far Northern Queensland.
It is a shade loving plant, good filtered shade is ideal. It is a tree that requires good moisture in summer. Also known as the ‘Wedge Leaflet Palm. Over time they will reach 15m in height and grow on a single stem.
Slow growing at first, which may be an advantage if you were trying to grow this wonderful tree indoors.
Widely used in landscaping grown both in containers and in the ground. Excellent for providing lush tropical looking foliage in resorts and around swimming pools. Can easily be grown in a container on a patio or verandah where the foliage is attractive year round.
- Height – To 15m
- Position – Morning sun, afternoon filtered shade.
- Soil – Humus rich moist and well drained.
- Growth rate – Slow. May take 10 – 20 years to reach 2m in height.
- Foliage – Large fan shaped and deep green, lighter in color in sunnier positions.
