Eucalyptus gregsoniana - Little Snowman
Eucalyptus gregsoniana – Little Snowman

Attractive deep evergreen foliage with a natural weeping habit, it is a tree that attracts insects and native birds to the garden. The foliage is a deep green and the new leaf stems are an attractive red.

Commonly called the Wolgan Snow Gum and sometimes the Mallee snow gum, its grows naturally in the Blue Mountains through to the Southern Highlands of NSW, it tolerates frosts and snow as well as windy positions.

This is a tree that has a lignotuber, so hard pruning is possible to manage size or regenerate the plant. It can grow as a single trunked tree, if coppiced it will form multiple trunks.

This is one of a few species commonly called Snow Gum, one other being Eucalyptus pauciflora.

Care and Conditions

  • Position
Full sun to a little afternoon shade. Best in cooler climate zones as it naturally grows at altitudes.
  • Soil
A well drained soil is essential, it is not a tree that requires humus rich soil and will cope well in rocky soils, sandy areas and poorer soil which adds to it versatility in landscaping.
  • Watering
In long dry summers some extra water may be required.
