A large Evergreen Magnolia
This cultivar has been in Australia for a few years and Magnolia Greenback is a proven performer. An excellent landscaping tree used both as a screen and a feature tree.
With an upright growth habit and dense foliage the only drawback is maintaining good foliage all the way to the ground level in some situations.
Also known as Magnolia ‘MGTIG’ this is a small to medium tree that can reach between 7 and 15m depending on soil and climate. Large fragrant flowers in spring along with the trademark grandiflora foliage this is an excellent selection for the garden where a narrow or upright evergreen is required.
Growth rate is regarded as moderate, however the actual growth rate will be determined by soil conditions and climate. In warmer climates with good soil, growth rate will be moderate to fast.
Magnolia Greenback Care
As for all of the evergreen magnolias. Magnolia Greenback will grow well from cooler temperate regions of Australia through to sub tropical. Humus rich moist, well drained soil, full sun to part shade.
Keep moist after planting and mulch well to retain a cool root run. Like most of the type it takes well to pruning if required.
Fertilize in spring, water well before fertilizing with a general purpose slow release type.
Pruning
Very little to no pruning is required, only removal of dead or diseased wood.
