Mexican weeping bamboo is a clump forming (non invasive) bamboo with a graceful weeping habit and very fine foliage. Well suited to growing in the garden as a feature or as a screenOtatea acuminata ssp aztecorum can also be grown in large pots or containers as a feature on a patio.
It is the very thin canes that give this plant such a graceful habit. And although it is rare in cultivation it vis well worth seeking out.
It will reach 5-6m in the garden usually less if grown in a pot or container. Also works well at the rear of the garden border as a backdrop for other plants. Growth rate is reasonably fast and it can put on more than 1m in 2 – 3 months
Care
Grow in full sun to part shade, and use a root barrier if you wish to constrain growth. Fertilise in spring with an all purpose fertiliser.
Once established Mexican weeping bamboo is reasonably drought tolerant, however growth will be faster with a little water and fertiliser
