Bambusa malingensis – Seabreeze Bamboo
Another clumping bamboo with fine foliage Bambusa malingensis or Seabreeze Bamboo is a fast growing type that will typically reach 10 – 12m in height. Lush green foliage is dense and this species makes a good screening plant as well as being suited as a feature plant when allowed to form a clump.
Although it has the name ‘Sea Breeze’ we are fairly sure it is not an extremely salt tolerant variety, however it does stand up to windy positions and coastal conditions, and this is where one of its common names comes from. The thick walled timber is used for construction.
This species is also commonly known as ‘Maling bamboo’. The Seabreeze name comes from the sound of the leaves in the breeze. The cane are very strong and useful for garden stakes and other applications.
