Bambusa Chungii – Emperor’s Blue Bamboo
Interestingly known both as Emperor’s Blue Bamboo and ‘white bamboo’ it is really green, however the culms are coated with a white powder or ‘bloom’ which give the canes a distinctive blue look.
The species will reach a height of around 10m and is grown widely in tropical and sub tropical regions of Asia.
Bambusa Chungii or Emperor’s Blue Bamboo will form a good clump over time of around 4m. The culms are largish to around 5cm in diameter (2 inches)
Bambusa Chungii ‘Barbellata’
This is a much smaller growing variety than the species reaching around 7m height with slightly narrower culms, it is also seen as being a more cold hardy plant than the species.
It seems to form a tighter clump than the species making it more suited to smaller gardens
Care
