Bambusa guangxiensis – Chinese dwarf bamboo

A low growing plant Bambusa guangxiensis or Chinese dwarf bamboo will reach around 1m (3ft) in height over 2-3 years and eventually around 3m, which makes it useful in a range of landscaping applications. It is a fairly slow growing species.

It is a natural hedging plant, dense with foliage to near ground level. It can be pruned back to around 1.5m if required.

Care

Bambusa guangxiensis grows best in a sunny position and copes well with heat, frosts can be an issue especially with new growth.

• Best grown in a moist well drained soil.
• A position in full sun to part shade is best, not deep shade.
• Regular watering in the first few months of planting is required.
• This is a non invasive, clumping fast growing variety excellent for a quick scfreen or hedge.
• A slow release organic fertilise in spring will promote good growth.
• Suited to growing inconatoners.
• Excellent as a backdrop in Japanese Style Gardens.

This a bamboo that vois best pruned to around 3m in height, this keeps the growth habit more busy with lots of lush green foliage.
