No garden should be without some winter flowering plants. And with a wide choice of both Australian native and exotic species, plants for all situations are available.
In Australia the list of winter flowering plants is long and varied. The Australian native plants such as the Qualup Bell (pictured below right) are unique, And of course plants such as Daphne, Hellebores and Camellias are well known for the winter flowers.
The classic snowdrops and snowflakes Galanthus and Acis, with pretty white flowers certainly have the right name, however their is still a lot more.
A lesser known species also offer us color in winter, such as Mahonia with its great yellow flowers on those cold winter mornings.

And for fragrance, Luculia pinceana – ‘Pink Spice’, with is wonderful pink flowers and great perfume, this small tree has a lot to offer. Daphne odora, is still one of the best winter flowering small shrubs for fragrance, and of course Chimonanthus (wintersweet) is another that lives up to its name.
