The Snow Gum – Landscaping Uses
Eucalyptus pauciflora or Snow gum as it is commonly called, is a small growing Eucalyptus from alpine regions of Australia. Very smooth white bark and as these trees are able to cope well with cold conditions they are suited to growing in the Northern Hemisphere in cold climates.
New branches appear a glossy red before turning to white or grey. Foliage is a mid green and waxy. The colder the climate the lower growing this tree will be. In warmer coastal areas it will also have a more upright habit than in cold mountain areas.
Finding more use in landscaping as a street tree due to its smaller growing habit than many other Eucalyptus. Also useful a feature tree where the wonderful bark color matches that of many exotics.
It grows naturally in Alpine areas of Victoria, New South Wales and Tasmania. Regarded as both drought tolerant as well as long cold wet spells.
Suitable for use in landscaping applications which have height limitations. Also useful as a small spreading shade tree.
