WHOLESALE TECOMANTHE NURSERIES
A number of Tecomanthe species are offered by wholesale growers. All are climbing plants or scrambling ground cover plants. Most are vigorous and some have spectacular flowers. Tecomanthe hillii or ‘Fraser Island Creeper’ is one of the best known species and a number of cultivars including ‘Island Belle’ are available from wholesale growers in Australia.
Although they are a tropical to sub tropical plant they can be grown in cooler climates given the right position in the landscape. They will grow in containers, and in a warm sunny position protected from cold winds and frosts they can be successfully grown in Melbourne.
In cooler climates, growth rate will be slower than in warmer zones. All species attract birds and bees when in flower.
All species will flower from spring top summer and all grow well in semi shade.
Varieties include :
- T. speciosa or ‘Three Kings Vine’ is a climbing plant with large ‘bell shaped’ cream to white flowers.
- T. dendrophila is the ‘New Guinea Trumpet Vine’.
- T. hillii is the ‘Fraser Island Creeper’, classic cigar shaped flowers that hang in clusters, excellent when trained over a pergola.
- T. ‘Roaring Meg’ has large and spectacular dusky pink flowers and good glossy green foliage and is a named variety of T.hillii.
