Mondo Grass or Ophiopogan, Plant Profile and Landscaping Uses

Mondo Grass, Dwarf Mondo Grass and Black Mondo Grass are all popular with landscapers for use as border plants. Wholesale growers offer a number of varieties including low growing and dark foliage types.

A relatively drought resistant plant once established and popular with landscapers and gardeners alike Mondo Grass is low growing and requires little or no maintenance.

Reaching around 10cm to 30cm depending on cultivar and conditions it grows well in full sun to dapples shade and makes an excellent plant to grow between pavers in a pathway.

Landscaping Uses

These are a group of clumping or running perennial grasses with strap like leaves and although they do flower they are grown mainly for the foliage . Dwarf Mondo Grass makes a great ground covers or border plant.

Drought resistant and can stand full sun, although a soil with lots of humus and some moisture will provide better results.

Ophiopogan Planiscapus Nigrescens is the black mondo grass, it can make a dramatic statement in landscaping.
