Aglaonema are widely used as a foliage plant sometimes called Chinese Evergreen. These are another plant in demand as in Asia, Aglaonema are considered to bring good luck if you own them and grow them. Aglaonema are also referred to as Glory of India.

In Australian they are grown as indoor plants where the attractive foliage is the main attraction. From the original 20 or so species, it is the new cultivars from Thailand that are now becoming popular with landscapers looking for indoor plants with a difference. 

Indoors they are useful for the ability to grow well in low light situations, and still reward us with colourful foliage.

They can be grown outdoors, however require a warm climate to perform satisfactorily. Humidity and light are the two main variables that lead to successful growth.

A. commutatum is one of the most widely grown species although it is the cultivars that are seen most widely for sale. Foliage of most species is thick and lance shaped. 

Relatively new to Australia these are a group of plants that are slow growing.

Most have green and pale green to cream variegated foliage, although foliage speckled with pink and red is seen in some of the newer cultivars. A few have dramatic have red or pink margined leaves.

Aglonema will flower, however it is the foliage that is the main attraction to landscapers.
