Companion Plants For Leptospermum ‘Copper Glow’

1. Acacia ‘Honey Bun’

Why it works:
This compact, rounded wattle contrasts beautifully with the arching form of ‘Copper Glow’. Its soft, green foliage highlights the copper tones, while bright golden flowers in late winter provide seasonal interest before the tea tree blooms. Both plants thrive in full sun, well-drained soils and low-water conditions, making them ideal partners in native and coastal gardens.

2. Westringia fruticosa (Coastal Rosemary)

Why it works:
Westringia’s dense, upright habit complements the softer, weeping form of ‘Copper Glow’. Its fine grey-green foliage enhances colour contrast and provides structure year-round. Extremely hardy and salt-tolerant, it works well as a low hedge or foreground planting.

3. Correa alba

Why it works:
Correa alba’s low, spreading form makes it an excellent understorey companion. Its soft grey foliage echoes coastal tones and contrasts with Copper Glow’s warmer hues. Winter flowers provide nectar for birds when other resources are scarce.

4. Lomandra longifolia (or compact cultivars)

Why it works:
Lomandra adds strong textural contrast with strappy foliage and provides a neat, grounding element at the base of the tea tree. It’s tough, drought-tolerant, and highly adaptable, helping to stabilise soil and suppress weeds.

5. Grevillea ‘Clearview David’ (or other medium shrubs)

Why it works:
Grevilleas introduce bold foliage and vibrant flowers that attract birds and pollinators, enhancing garden biodiversity. Their flowering season often complements ‘Copper Glow’, creating a dynamic, layered native planting scheme.
