
The Cabbage Palm
Livstona Australis or Cabbage Palm is the most widely found native palm tree in Australia.
It is very versatile when it comes to soil conditions and climate and this makes it a popular tree with landscapers and commercial property developers.
Widely in the landscaping industry it is also referred to as the Australian Fan Palm. The name ‘Cabbage Palm’ comes from the use of the fresh growing tips as a bush tucker food.
Livstona Australis are a medium to tall growing tree growing palm to 30 m. Used widely in the garden, near a swimming pools, and planted in avenues in housing estates and commercial developments.
Growing with a solitary trunk, growth rate is regarded as medium, faster in warmer climates in good soil.
Care
Given its natural range from Queensland to Eastern Victoria it is easy to see that this is a hardy easy care palm tree.
- Full sun to a little light shade.
- Humus rich well drained soil. Although Livstona Australis will cope with periods of wet soils.
