Beach Acronychia
Acronychia inperferata or Beach Acronychia is a small tree reaching from 9m – 15m, sometimes called the Logan River Apple.
Also known as the Fraser Island Apple where is is widely found. A small to medium growing, drought tolerant and salt hardy tree. Acronychia imperforata will grow to 10m, has nice glossy light green foliage and small white flowers.
Although growing best in a moist soil, once established Acronychia imperforata are regarded as Drought and salt tolerant this small tree is often used as a shade tree in seaside gardens. Wholesale Nurseries can supply both, Acronychia Tube Stock and advanced plants.
Propagation is from seed, however germination is slow and erratic. From cuttings it seems to be difficult and requires expertise as it is slow to form a successful root system.
Small orange edible fruit and this is a species that can be pruned to a compact shape. Commonly found in coastal locations in Northern NSW Fruit is small and yellow, flowers are a buttery cream and do not have noticeable fragrance.
This species along with others are used in sand dune stabilisation, as small street or park trees and sometimes as screening plants.
