Hothouses, Greenhouses and Glass House Kits

Domestic Green Houses, Hothouses and Glasshouse kits can make gardening easier even in Australias warm climate, as well as opening up the possibility of growing a wider range of plants.

There are lots of good reasons why a Greenhouse inn your own backyard is worth considering.

5 Reasons For Growing Plants in a Greenhouse

  1. A Longer growing season.
A greenhouse allows you to extend your growing season, you can start plants earlier in late winter or early spring and keep them growing for longer into the cooler months.
This allows you to grow plants that really like some warmth such as tomatoes, chillies eggplants and others.
You can use a greenhouse to start plants earlier and then plant them out into the garden when the weather warms up. Or you can grow them right through the season in the greenhouse itself.
  2. A controlled climate
In a greenhouse you are more in charge of the climate than outdoors. So a cold spell in spring will not affect your seedlings and small plants. And for those tender plants, a consistent start to the growing season produces better results.
You can also protect plants more easily from slugs, snails, insect pests and the damage that frosts and cold can do to them.
  3. Grow Plants from outside your climate zone
Lot of Orchids and ornamental plants that are sub tropical can be grown in cooler climates in a greenhouse.
  4. Growing Plants out of season
You can actually grow plants such as basil and tomatoes out of season if you can provide the extra warmth and the greenhouse can receive enough light. Winter lettuce and leafy greens are prime examples.
  5. Propagation
In a greenhouse propagating plants is easier, you can add a heated propagation bed to allow you to more effectively grow both stem and leaf cuttings as well as provide the constant warmth for raising seeds.

What’s the difference between a greenhouse and a hot house?

A greenhouse is heated by the sun.
A hothouse is artificially heated.

HOWEVER the actual structure is the same. Turn on heating, then it’s a hothouse, turn the heating off and it’s a greenhouse.

Hot Houses

Hot houses are used to provide a warmer climate in order to grow plants that would naturally require hotter temperatures as well as to grow plants ‘out of season’. They are also very useful to grow seedlings before transplanting into the garden. Hot houses are artificially heated and are temperature controlled and used to be made of glass, however today it is common practice to use clear polycarbonate panels, as these are cheaper and tougher.

Green Houses

Essentially a green house is a hothouse without the heating.

Mini- hothouses , garden rooms, aluminium benches, aluminium glasshouses, greenhouse nursery accessories are all available for Sydney NSW, Melbourne VIC, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast QLD, Perth WA, Adelaide SA, Canberra ACT, Hobart TAS, Darwin NT.
