Ghost bamboo : Dendrocalamus minor amoenus Plant Profile
With its wonderful new white culms Ghost Bamboo (Dendrocalamus minor amoenus) is one of the best ornamental clumping bamboos. The long straight stems look ‘ghostly’ in the morning and evening, especially when lit a night. Also know as white ghost bamboo or Angel Mist Bamboo.
Perhaps one of the most versatile of all of the clumping bamboos, is copes with drought and frosts and still holds its attractive look. Excellent in the corner of a garden as a feature, planted near an outdoor living area for afternoon shade, or used as a screening plant. Foliage remains a good green through winter
Dendrocalamus minor amoenus is a large growing clumping bamboo (8 – 10m) with new growth being white but changeing to a very pale green. Fast growing and reasonably cold tolerant Dendrocalamus minor amoenus or Ghost Bamboo makes a great ornamental plant, the large green leaves will form a dense canopy in time and help create a tropical look in cooler climates.
