If you live in Sydney, and your looking for garden edging that works, it needs to tough, long lasting, attractive and low maintenance.

What you choose will depend on the application. An edge between a garden bed and a lawn or path, will be different to that between a garden bed and a driveway where heavy traffic may be an issue. And of course, its all a matter of what looks good in your garden.

We look at 5 of the best gardening edging ideas that fit the bill. Including the cheapest solution of all.

  1.  Corten Steel.
It has a a natural rusted weathered look, it is flexible, it is easy to install (simple DIY) and its long lasting. You can also get it varies heights. You can set it high to form a barrier or raised edge. Or set it low so that its almost invisible.
  2.  Brick
It looks good, you can install it yourself, it can make a wide border between garden and lawn and correctly laid you can drive a car over it.
  3.  Concrete.
You can buy precast sections, or have it poured on site. Again, very low maintenance if properly installed.

And here are a few materials we do not like.

  1. Timber
Unless its temporary we do not like using timber. It does not last, it will often crack and splinter.
  2. Plastic or PVC
We simply do not like the look of it. What we have seen also tends to deteriorate over time.
  3.  Aluminium
It is light weight, however it seems to lack the strength and durability of Corten Steel.
