WHOLESALE Hedychium NURSERIES

A group of plants commonly called ‘Ginger Lilies’ Hedychium can be an excellent plant to add colour and a tropical look to the garden trough the flowers and the lush foliage. Landscapers looking for a tropical look use these plants widely in cooler climates. Although over 70 species are found only a few are common in cultivation in Australia.

One of the best for cooler areas of Australia is C.coccineum ‘Tara’ with its tall flower spikes, fragrant and attractive.

Most Hedychium species are best grown in light shade in a fertile soil with some moisture though summer.

Varieties

A number of species and cultivars are offered by wholesale growers, these include:

  • Hedychium coccineum – Known both as the Apricot Ginger Lily and Scarlet Ginger Lily, summer flowering with orange flowers
  • Hedychium gardnerianun – Tall spikes of golden yellow flowers held upright.
  • Hedychiun greenii – Grown for the foliage as well as the colourful orange to red flowers. Foliage is one of the best of the genus with green on the upper side of the leaves and a burgundy underside. Best grown in part shade.
  • Hedychium coronarium
  • Hedychium thyrsiforme – Very deep green foliage which make it desirable. Arching growth habit.
