Parrot Tulips are actually a mutation from hybridization between late flowering tulips in the Triumph group. A spring flowering bulb that grow to 20 – 30cm depending on conditions. They fall into a group labeled as Division 10.
Parrot Tulips are distinguished by the large ruffled or frilled petals, they are bright colored, sometimes striped, and will flower under similar conditions to other Tulips. So mainly double flowers, bright and big, certainly not the ‘classic tulip shape’.
Parrot Tulips – Care
These are tulips that will need a sheltered position. The large flower heads along with comparatively weak stems, make them susceptible to falling over, so in a cottage garden where they are surrounded by other plants is an excellent position.
