The Balkan Iris
A dwarf iris well suited to the rock garden, Iris reichenbachii is a bearded type found from Bulgaria through to Greece.
The flower colour varies from yellow to purple and for us it flowers in late winter to early spring. Flowers appear on short stems and is veined. Foliage is a blue green.
Propagation is from seed or by division of rhizomes as clumps develop. Iris reichenbachii has been used in hybridisation and through its unique chromosome make up
Care and Growing conditions
In a sunny position and a well drained soil, Iris reichenbachii is very easy care.
It will need to be divided every 3 – 4 years and this is best done after flowering.

Although this unassuming little iris may not have the size or flamboyance of others, however because of its genetic make up it is valuable in hybridization.
