Another lilly pilly that will grow to be a small tree is Syzygium paniculatum, however it can also be pruned to stay as a smaller shrub. It will reach a height of around 5m. Non invasive root system and a good screening plant.

Also knownas the Magenta Lilly Pilly, this is a species with a reasonably fast growth rate.

A dwarf form of yzygium paniculatum is also available, reaching around 1.5 m in height, however easily pruned to a smaller size if required. One of the dwarf forms is S. paniculatum ‘Lilyput’ well suited to a low hedge and perhaps as a low windbreak.

Landscaping Uses

As a low to medium hedge, as a street tree, as a screening tree for backyard privacy.

Care

Flowering from spring to summer this a species that grows best in warmer climates, it will require some extra moisture during long dry summers.

Low maintenance and will grow in full sun to part shade. Watch for Psyllids with this species.
