Lightwood Tree or Hickory Wattle
Acacia Implexa is commonly called both ‘Lightwood’ and ‘Hickory Wattle’. Native to Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria, Acacia Implexa is summer flowering tree.
Moderately fast growing and regarded as a small tree reaching 10 – 12m in height.
Smaller growing than the common Blackwood this is a tree that grows well in urban environments as long as it is not subject to root disturbance.
Dark green foliage and pale cream flowers from late spring to summer, Acacia implexa is an open upright tree that allows light to filter through to garden areas below.
Acacia Implexa or Hickory Wattle. Found over a wide area of Queensland and NSW Acacia Implexa is a small to medium sized tree growing to 12m depending on conditions.
An erect habit and with fluffy white – cream flowers, Acacia Implexa looks very similar to the common ‘Blackwood’.
Acacia implexa prefers a well drained soil and is reasonably drought tolerant once established.
Acacia Implexa Landscaping Uses
Used in parks gardens and for street plantings. Useful for its fast growth rate yet reasonably short natural habit. The open crown provides good dappled shade, flowers are on the large side for Acacia species which is an added attraction.
Used in Nature strips, and also suited to coastal areas. It is not regarded as suitable for planting beneath power lines. Regarded as long lived and versatile, many examples are found in street through Melbourne as well as Sydney and Adelaide.
