Virgilia, Plant Profile and Landscaping Uses
Virgilia are a fast growing shade tree that have the added benefit of colorful flowers at an early age.
Two species, Virgilia orobides and Virgilia capensis are both commonly called the Cape Lilac. Both fast growing free flowering small to medium shade tree.
Reaching around 8m in height and being able to do this a short period they are popular with landscapers for the instant effect.
Ferny foliage is attractive year round, flowers are fragrant from late spring though summer. The flowers do resemble those of the Lilac, hence the common name.

Virgilia do have a vigorous root system and should not be planted near drainage lines.

Excellent in new developments where quick temporary growth is required while more permanent plantings can be established.
Best in a position protect from wind in full sun to light shade.
