Rhododendron chrysomanicum - Dwarf Yellow Flowering
Rhododendron chrysomanicum

Regarded as one of the best yellow flowering varieties, Rhododendron chrysomanicum is also a dwarf variety reaching only around 1 metre in height with a similar spread.

Flowering early in the season from late winter to early spring, the bright flowers add colour to the garden when needed.

This is a variety that will grow well in part shade to full sun, morning sun with afternoon dappled shade is recommended.

This is an excellent plant to grow beneath large deciduous trees and is best in a frost free position to protect the new flower buds from damage.

Rhododendron chrysodoron
Rhododendron chrysodoron

This is a hybrid between Rhododendron chrysodoron (pictured) and Rhododendron burmanicum, which has fragrant flowers, both of which also have yellow flowers.

Also believed to be related to R. yungchangense and R. sulfureum.

Care

Best grown in a humus rich well drained soil that retains some moisture through summer.

Mulch with a thick layer of mulch each year to maintain a cool moist root run.

Prune lightly directly after flowering to maintain shape and size.
