A wonderful improved form, Luculia pinceana ‘Pink Spice’ flowers in winter with masses of fragrant pink flowers. Attractive large deep green foliage on this evergreen shrub to small tree.
The fragrance in winter is a great addition, large flowers are very attractive and the foliage is perhaps the best of any of the Luculias.
Luculia pinceana Pink Spice will reach around 3 – 4 m in height, however it does take well to pruning so can easily be kept smaller if required.
Landscaping Uses
Excellent as a specimen plant, where it can take pride of place in the winter garden. Also suited to be used as a screening plant or a hedge in a sheltered position as it takes well to pruning.
Care
Luculia pinceana Pink Spice will grow well in a humus rich soil. Part shade to full sun with some protection from the hot afternoon sun and hot dry winds.
Mulch well to maintain a cool root run and provide a little extra moisture during long dry spells.
A general purpose slow release fertiliser in spring and again in late summer to autumn is adequate. Water before fertilising and top up the mulch as well.
