Cercis chinensis (Chinese Redbud)
If you are looking for a small flowering tree or shrub for full sun, the Cercis chinensis (Chinese Redbud) could be it. Reaching only 3-4m in height and with masses of pink flowers in spring that are held close to the branches. Glossy green heart shaped flowers follow.
Choose your form carefully, some come with a good single trunk and branch out .5m up, other bronco from lower down, it depends on the look you are after.
Landscaping Uses
Use this as a feature tree for spring colour, or towards the rear of the garden border. Although it does flower best in full sun a cool moist root rum is essential. Easily pruned to keep in shape if required. Although it does like sun, hot windy positions can be a problem with leaf burn in summer.
Some extra moisture in very dry periods will be required.
