Yucca rostrata will reach 3-4m with a rounded head of fine needle like foliage are a fast growing shrubs to small trees originally from Mexico through to Arizona. They grow with a single trunk and the foliage is a ball or rosette of lance shaped leaves. These are a wonderful plant for warm dry areas and are often sold for use in low maintenance commercial plantings around office buildings.

The popular Yucca rostrata ‘Sapphire Skies’ has lovely intense steel – blue foliage along with creamy / ivory flower spikes . A trunk forming species which will reach 3m +. Requires a well drained soil and full sun.

Also useful for creating a ‘Tropical Look’ to the garden.

Yucca rostrata plants and cultivars including ‘Sapphire Skies’ work well as feature landscaping plants, they can be grown in large pots or containers and look great when planted in groups of three. Care of Yucca rostrata plants is not difficult. They require as much sun as possible and a well drained soil. Do not overwater.

Growth rate is regarded as slow to moderate, however over time they can reach 3m + in height.

Pruning

Old foliage can be cut to form a ‘skirt’ as it yellows and drops down.
