The Evergreen Hydrangea
Dichroa Versicolor is an evergreen shrub suitable for sun or part shade. It is a species that is related to hydrangea and does have a similar appearance.
This is a blue flowering shrub that will reach 1.5 metres in height.
The flowers appear in clusters, blue and white, the inner flowers seem to stay as small buds. They make excellent cut flowers, the flowers contrast against the deep green foliage and you can use the plant as a hedge if you wish.
It has its origins in Japan and China through to the Himalayas. And being versatile and easy care you can grow it in containers if required.
Care and growing notes
Dichroa Versicolor is a little more tolerant of sun and warm conditions than actual Hydrangea varieties, with the added advantage of being evergreen it is perhaps a little under used in gardens and landscaping.
Dichroa Versicolor does well in a part shaded position.
A humus rich moist slightly acidic soil is best, but well drained soil is important with some protection from hot afternoon sun advisable.
