Planting by the Moon

Planting crops according to the phases of the moon has been a method of planting used for centuries. Moon planting guides or moon planting calendars are based around the cycles of the moon in a specific area, waxing and waning moons.
Moon planting guides, Moon Planting Calendars or planting by the moon has been a popular method of planting vegetables and other plants for centuries. We provide a brief introduction.

Moon planting is the process of using Lunar cycles to determine the best time of the month to plant different crops.

The theory is that as the Moon influences the tides it also influences the sap content in plants.

So the four different phases of the moon New Moon, First Quarter, Full Moon and Last Quarter are suited to different gardening activities.

Briefly explained

  • Leaf and fruit crops, plants that produce their crops above the ground are planted during the phase of a waxing moon.
  • Root crops, or plants that produce their crop below the ground are planted during a waning moon.
  • Its a little more complicated than this, however moon planting calendars and guides are available for more detailed information.
