If we were looking fo some ideas for garden sculpture in Sydney we could well start with a walk around the Royal Botanic Garden and the Domain. We particularly like Magnolia (Seed) and Palm by Bronwyn Oliver, one of the more modern additions, however the Herb Garden by sculptor Peter Mueller is also a wonderful modern piece of sculpture. The spiral of sandstone blocks by Kimio Tsuchiya is a little more abstract again but a wonderfull piece of work.
When turning to statues and sculptures for our own gardens the choice of ‘off the shelf’ works is huge, anything from large bronze sculptures to to smaller marble and stone forms. Commissioned work is another area alltogether, and if you are looking for that give us a call and we can recommend a few who will oblige.
Choosing a garden sculpture.
When looking for that special piece of sculpture, consider the surroundings and garden style as well as the sculpture itself. It is very easy to select a piece of work that looks great in someone else’s garden, only to find that it does not fit that well into your own.
This does not mean that you need to choose period style piece as you have that style of garden. Modern works on older style gardens can look great, and traditional sculptures can fit into modern landscape designs.
Take the time to imagine the piece in your selected location and it will usually work well.
Consider size and colour as well as shape and form. Are you looking for something that will blend in or stand out.
