WHOLESALE ADENIUM OBESUM NURSERIES
Adenium obesum is called the African Desert Rose and is a popular plant in garden centres across Australia. New cultivars are released on a regular basis and these drought tolerant plants are grown indoors in many areas.
Over recent years much hybridisation of these plants gas been carried out, some outstanding new colour forms are becoming available, and wholesalers are producing increased numbers and varieties for retail distribution.
Flower colors vary from white through to red, some single flowering some doubles.
Best described as a small shrub with a swollen trunk or caudex, most commercially produced varieties will reach around 1m in height over time. They are very adaptable in terms of growing conditions and are usually grown in attractive ceramic containers which will allow the trunk to be shown off as feature as well as the flowers.
The attractive trunk makes Adenium obesum a popular candidate for bonsai, even if not grown as a bonsai, the plant is usually grown high in the container, usually with the soil hilled to maximise the exposure of the trunk.
Variety also exists in the size of the caudex. Sold mainly as potted specimens for patio and balcony, they can also be grown in the garden in warmer climates. In the garden they will grow to become a small shrub over time.
A few grafted varieties are available, these can provide multiple flower colours on the one plant.
