Penstemon are widely used in cottage garden plantings as well as garden borders in many areas of Australia.

Flower colours range from red through to purple. Best offered in spring as they come into flower. A range of compact growing forms that will reach around 60cm in height are also available.

The lower forms are long flowering and will repeat flower without attention. Gardeners can use hedge shears or electric trimmers to prune them back if required.

Advice

Water during hot or dry summer periods, fertilize with a slow release pellet fertilizer. well drained soil in winter is essential.
