Manchurian Pear

With a much broader crown than others what we commonly call the Manchurian Pear is Pyrus ussuriensis. Reaching around 10m in height the crown broadens with maturity. Better suited to open planting than others.

This is an early flowering species which is an attraction where flowers early in spring are desired. Flowers are followed by small inedible fruits.

Landscaping uses

The wider spreading habit makes Pyrus ussuriensis suited to different landscaping schemes than the upright types.

Useful as a flowering shade tree when established, or to line driveways and fence lines on larger properties. Flowering in spring with attractive white flowers, large heart shaped leaves are attractive through the season. Good yellow to orange tones in autumn.

Pyramidical habit when young developing a broader crown as it matures. This is a tree that has a vigorous root system, so plant away form drainage systems and best away from paved areas.

Generally available as potted specimens, or in root control bags from 1m through to more advanced specimens of 5m in height.
