Hardy deciduous and with fantastic flowers in spring Prunus ‘Shirotae’ or Japanese Flowering Cherry Trees make a great feature tree in any garden. Full sun to part shade, a cool root run and some protection from wind is best
Reaching around 4m in height with a broad spreading habit, over time Prunus shirotae can form a crown with a spread of 5 – 6 m.
Growth rate is moderate at first and slower as the tree matures. Also available as a grafted specimen this is a tree that prefers a humus rich well drained soil in full sun to part shade.
Flowering will be limited in deep shade.
With a good natuarl growth habit pruning is generally not required and is limited to the removal of dead or damaged wood.
Excellent specimen tree or spreading background tree in medium to large gardens.
