Weeping Mulberry
Morus alba ‘Pendula’ is commonly called the Weeping Mulberry, this is an excellent small weeping tree with lovely foliage and is well suited to smaller gardens as in most conditions it will reach around 3-4m.
These are usually a grafted tree and the long weeping branches will reach the ground to make what looks like a ‘mound of foliage’ when in full growth. Available in a number of forms from wholesale growers this is a deciduous tree that is very useful in landscaping projects.
Landscaping Uses
Morus alba pendula or Weeping Mulberry, is grown as a feature tree and is best planted in a reasonably open position where its form can be best appreciated. As a small growing tree it is well suited to smaller gardens.
Morus alba pendula can also be grown in containers if required. Well suited for use as a specimen tree in home gardens, used in parks as well as in commercial landscaping where a softer look in a deciduous tree is required.
Growing Conditions
In winter when the foliage turns and drops the structure of the tree becomes evident and in itself is a great feature in the garden. Flowers and fruit are insignificant. This is a long lived tree tolerant of a range of soil conditions and climates.
Branches can be pruned back as required or left to form a long weeping curtain. Heavy annual top pruning is not a recommended method. It is better to consider the structure and allow some branch development that creates a graceful open habit rather than a mass of tangled wood on the top of the stem.
