Cold Tolerant – Garvinea Gerberas
A hardy perennial Garvinia Gerberas are easy to grow and will cope with the heat of summer as well as cool winters.
Available in a range of colours, these are a very colourful addition to the garden. The flowers also look great in a vase and as they repeat flower they provide colour for months.
You can grow Garvinea Gerberas in a container, making sure that you use a premium potting mix. Flowering period is from spring right through to late summer and into autumn.
Care
Best grown in full sun to a little afternoon shade, the real key to success is proper soil preparation.
Dig the soil over well without digging down into clay. Add some well rotted compost, some aged cow manure and some blood and bone. Mix this through the soil well.
Space the plants at around 30 cm for a full ground cover effect.
Plant your Garvinea Gerberas and then water them in well with a liquid seaweed fertiliser. Mulch around the plant to maintain a cool moist root run.
You may need to water during hot dry summers as these plants do prefer to be kept moist.
