Erigeron karvinskianus
An excellent ground cover plant , Erigeron karvinskianus or ‘Mexican Daisy’ with its long lasting flowers from early summer right through to winter is a tough plant. A low growing perennial reaching around .5m in height, that will self seed, works well in pots beneath larger plants. Small ‘daisy like’ pink flowers are attractive.
Often used to grow between pavers, on rock walls and just about anywhere. We would not call it a ground cover plant as such, however, as it grows in positions where little else will, maybe it is.
These attractive plants will flower year round in many areas and if it gets out of hand can be pruned with a high set lawn mower, or use a brush cutter.
Naturalised in many areas of Australia.
‘The Quakeress’ is a well know old cultivar worth seeking out.
Care
This really is a cottage garden type plant, it self seeds and spreads, perhaps not the best plant for the orderly gardener, but a must for those who like the wild look. Prune back at will, it will bounce back. Frost tolerant and just so easy to grow.
