Ageratum 'Ariella' Red Flowering
Ageratum ‘Ariella’

Often grown as an annual Ageratum can also be grown as a perennial, and this mainly depends on the climate. It is Ageratum houstonianum. These plants are native to Mexico and it is the cultivars that  go under the name Ageratum ‘Ariella’ that are most widely grown.

Flowers range from white through to pink and blue in colour and these are a fast growing plant, naturally mound forming and also ling flowering.

Also known as the ‘Floss flower’ and Mexican Paintbrush these are a cool season plant in the natural environment. They will flower from late summer onwards and the feathery flowers give a soft look to the garden. In some climates they will flower from spring right through summer almost into winter. Its is when the weather cools that they begin to die back.

It is the ‘Artist’ series that will flower best through summer in warmer climates.

A number of named varieties are available including

  • Artist Blue
  • Ariella Wite
  • Ariella Rose
  • Ariella Blue
