WHOLESALE BROWALLIA NURSERIES
Browallia are a group of exotic plants from Brazil and other countries that have been recently renamed Streptosolen. In a warm sunny position they make a great border plant, the species are a little more scrambling than the cultivars which are more compact growing plants.
Fast growing with very colourful flowers they are best described as a small growing to a scrambling shrub depending on the species, however modern cultivars have a more compact habit. Look for Browallia ‘Ginger Megs’ one of the best compact orange flowering varieties offered by wholesale growers.
Flowering from spring to summer they make a welcome addition to many landscaping schemes. In cooler climates Browallia (syn. Streptosolen) are grown as annuals. Some will self seed.
Browallia species
- B. americana – Easier species to grow, blue flowers and reaches around 60cm.
- B. speciosa – Small growing with purple flowers, around 60cm in height.
- B. jamesonii – Orange flowers on a scrambling shrub to 3m. Also known as the Marmalade Bush.
