Black Booyong – Argyrodendron Actinophyllum
Argyrodendron actinophyllum is commonly called the Black Booyong. This is a sub tropical rainforest tree from the warmer areas of eastern Australia.
A heavily buttressed trunk makes it most attractive in many larger scaled landscaping applications.
Growing in the sub tropical rainforest in the coastal hinterland of Northern New South Wales to Southern Queensland, Argyrodendron actinophyllum will flower, however it is mainly grown as a shade tree. Good specimens are found growing in Sydney, and a number of good sized trees are also found further south in the Botanical Gardens in Melbourne.
Landscaping Uses.
Grown as a feature tree in a broader landscape, the heavily buttressed trunk and attractive glossy green foliage are the main features. The palmate foliage is interesting in that the leaf margins are wavy or undulating.
This is a large tree and is best suited to very large gardens and parks. In an open position it will form a good rounded crown. White bell shaped flowers in summer and deep green glossy palmate leaves with slight undulation make it attractive year round.
Argyrodendron actinophyllum or Black Booyong will grow to 25m and prefers a rich moist soil.
