Grown for the blue flowers that appear in large clusters in spring to summer are followed by small dark blue to purple berries autumn.

In good conditions this is fast growing plant and will flower in mid winter in warmer climates, a little later in cooler areas. It is very similar in appearance to D. versicolour.

Growing well is part shade and a humus rich moist soil, Dichroa febrifuga is evergreen in most climates however in really cool locations it may loose some foliage in the depths of winter.

As with all hydrangeas, and this plant is closely related, the depth of the blue in the flowers will depend on soil pH.

Very closely related to Dichroa versicolor
