Archontophoenix Alexandrea is a native of Queensland growing, self cleaning fronds, low maintenance but is not really drought tolerant. Commonly called the ‘Alexander Palm’ it is similar to Archontophoenix cunninghamiana
A tall growing palm tree that will reach 30m in height depending on conditions. Long fronds to 3m in length and a pale grey trunk that swell a little at the base.
The crown shaft is a mid to pale green. Flowers form at the lower end of the crown shaft and are a creamy white followed by orange fruits.
Archontophoenix Alexandrea Care
This is a shallow rooted palm tree and requires a rich soil with adequate moisture. It does not grow well in cold climates or when exposed to frosts.
Mulching around the base will help retain moisture.
Landscaping Uses
Grown as a solitary specimen Archontophoenix alexandrea can look good lining a road or driveway in a larger properties. Planted in groups it provides an excellent tropical background to smaller growing plants.
The Alexander palm grows well in full sun, it can also be grown in part shade, however deep shade is not suitable.
In its early stages Archontophoenix alexandrea can be grown in a container and will even grow indoors.
