WHOLESALE Syagrus romanzoffiana (Queen Palm, Cocos Palm) NURSERIES
A graceful palm tree Syagrus romanzoffiana is also known as the Queen Palm and Cocos Palm. It is a species with a reasonably open crown, feathery foliage and long arching fronds.
Will reach around 15 – 20m in height, often smaller in cultivation. Growing with a solitary trunk and being reasonably cold tolerant this has been a very popular landscaping tree. Unfortunately the seeds of the tree germinated very easily and are spread by birds, in some areas it has proved to have weed potential. In areas of northern NSW and Queensland it has naturalises itself into some forested areas, especially along waterways.
Landscaping Uses
Excellent for creating a tropical look without the dense canopy of some palm trees. Upright trunk and self cleaning (drops old fronds). Best grown away from walkways and set back from pools and outdoor living areas.
Grows well in coastal conditions, full sun to part shade. In cooler climates it does need very good drainage in winter. Overwatering can cause problems including browning of the foliage.
- Cold tolerant
- Attractive lacy fronds.
- Single smooth trunk.
- Fast growing,
- Open crown allows light to penetrate.
