Raspberry Plants Wholesale Nurseries
Raspberry plants are sold as canes when dormant in winter. They are regarded as a cool climate plant and require a rich well drained soil.
Both the American and European varieties are grown in Australia with many hybrids being amongst the most popular. Raspberries are grown commercially in Tasmania, Victoria and in some of the cooler locations in New South Wales.
They require a cool summer and preferably low humidity and rainfall during the ripening period.
The main variety grown commercially would be Williamette, followed by Nootka, both fruiting during summer. The later fruiting Heritage provides fruit through to early autumn and is also popular with commercial growers.
Some Raspberry facts.
- Over 80% of the commercially grown raspberries are grown in Victoria and Tasmania.
- More growers are growing raspberries that are destined to be sold as fresh fruit undercover each year, as this improves output.
